Speedycash.com 250

It was another dominating race for Corey Heim as he led the most laps in route to another Craftsman Truck Series win in overtime. Daniel Hemric started and finished second with Rajah Caruth third. Pole sitter Tyler Ankrum finished fourth and Tanner Gray came home in fifth place.

After a rainy day with no qualifying or practice, the lineup was set with teammates Tyler Ankrum on the pole and Daniel Hemric beside him. Ankrum jumped out front with Jake Garcia close behind him. Ankrum led until the competition caution on lap 20. Layne Riggs was able to jump out front on the restart and took the lead on lap 27. On lap 31 the caution flag came out again, this time for a big wreck involving three trucks. Giovanni Ruggiero got a little too low in turn one and got into the grass causing the accident. Kaden Huneycutt and Brandon Jones were caught up in the wreck, ending their race. After the pit stops under caution, Grant Enfinger jumped out front at the restart and held on to win stage 1.

Enfinger started stage 2 in front and stayed there until Cory Heim passed him right before the next caution flag when Riggs got loose and spun out. At the restart, Andres Perez spun out and made contact with the outside wall in turn two, sending him to the garage for repairs. Riggs brought out another caution as he contacted Luke Fenhaus, sending Riggs into the grass and ending his night. At the restart, Enfinger was able to get in front of Heim to take the lead with eight laps left in the stage. Heim passed Enfinger back with four laps to go in the stage and held on to win stage 2.

Ty Majeski started out front for the final stage and stayed there until Heim was able to work his way back up through the field and take the lead again with 71 laps remaining. Stewart Friesen took the lead with 40 laps left when Heim made a green flag pit stop. Two laps later, Rajah Caruth assumed the lead and kept it for four laps, then Jake Garcia took the lead. Garcia pitted with 31 laps remaining, putting Heim back out in front of the field.  Frankie Muniz brought out the next caution with 21 laps remaining when he tagged the wall in turn 1. Friesen lost control of his truck and collected Enfinger and Chandler Smith causing a red flag situation with 11 laps to go. They only made a few laps before Connor Mosack contacted Garcia, bringing out the final caution and setting up an overtime finish. Matt Mills brought out yet another caution. Heim kept the lead until the last lap when Ben Rhodes led at the white flag, but Heim was able to get back by Rhodes for the win.

Black’s Tire 200

Tyler Ankrum won at Rockingham Speedway; it had been 130 races since his last win in the Craftsman Truck Series. The pole sitter, Jake Garcia, had a strong night and finished second. Daniel Hemric finished third, continuing a strong start of the year with Rajah Caruth fourth and Grant Enfinger fifth.

Jake Garcia started on the pole with Chandler Smith beside him. Garcia jumped out to the lead but there was a caution after just three laps as Conner Mosack spun while running in the eighth position. Bailey Currey suffered damage to the rear of his truck but continued. Garcia maintained the lead until he was passed by Layne Riggs with two laps to go in stage 1. Riggs held on to win his first career stage win, with Garcia finishing second.

Grant Enfinger jumped out front to start the second stage in his Chevrolet. Enfinger stayed out front until Kaden Honeycutt passed him midway through the stage. With twelve laps to go in the stage, Riggs retook the lead. Riggs held on to sweep both stages.

Smith started the final stage out front and moved out to a one-second lead before the yellow flag came out again, this time for Ty Majeski who was running in the tenth position. Majeski was on the inside of Enfinger and lost the rear of his truck and spun out hitting the rear of the truck on the outside wall. The race was red flagged as they worked on the outside wall. When the race started back, they were only able to complete one lap before Stuart Freisen and Tanner Gray got together on the frontstretch after Rajah Caruth got loose coming out of turn four. Matt Mills also suffered damage in the accident. After the yellow flag pit stops, Corey Heim decided to stay out and took the lead for the restart. Heim stayed up front until he made a green flag pit stop with 29 laps to go and Giovanni Ruggiero took the lead. Ruggiero would make his pit stop on the next lap, turning the lead over to Tyler Ankrum. Ankrum would hold on for his first win of the year.

Weather Guard Truck Race

Chandler Smith won his first truck race of the year holding off Cup series regular Kyle Larson at Bristol Motor Speedway. Smith led 127 of the 250 laps on his way to winning an additional $250,000 in the Triple Truck Challenge Event.

Daniel Hemric jumped out to the lead to start the race and stayed up front until Chandler Smith overtook him on lap 10. Conner Mosak brought out the first caution on lap 18 as he spun his truck without collecting any damage. Ty Majeski and Frankie Muniz brought out the second caution as the trucks of Stewart Friesen and Brandon Jones also suffered damage. Smith maintained the lead to pick up the stage 1 win.

The second stage started with Smith leading the field to the green flag. A cation flag flew after just one lap when Kaden Honeycutt got into the back of Rajah Caruth and sent him for a spin on the frontstretch. Bayley Currey passed Smith with just eight laps to go in the second stage and held on to win his first career stage.

Caruth did not pit during the caution and jumped to the lead at the restart of the final stage. Toni Breidinger brought out the caution when Friesen got into her in the turn causing her to make contact with the outside wall. Caruth remained in the lead until 27 laps to go when Corey Heim took the lead for the first time. The caution flag was put out with 23 laps left for light rain. With fourteen laps to go they restarted the race, but they only made it one lap before the caution flag came out again, but Smith was able to get in front of Heim to take over the top spot. After the final restart, Smith jumped out front and was able to hold off a hard charging Kyle Larson who finished second. Corey Heim was third in his Toyota with Tyler Ankrum and Ben Rhodes rounding out the top five in fourth and fifth respectively.

Next week the series moves to Rockingham.

Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge 200

It was an action-packed night at Martinsville Speedway for The Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge 200, with Daniel Hemric ending the night with his first Craftsman Truck Series win. Hemric collected his first grandfather clock trophy along with a $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus and celebrated the victory with his impressive back flip.

Corey Heim dominated most of the night, winning both stages and leading 149 of the 200 laps before cutting a tire and making an unscheduled pit stop. Kaden Honeycutt was in the lead at the restart on lap 166 but was hit by Ty Majeski, sending both trucks into the wall. Tyler Ankrum worked his way into the lead and with four laps left, his teammate Hemric bumped Ankrum out of the way. Hemric pulled away to secure the win for his McAnally-Hilgemann Racing team and locked himself into the playoffs.

Teammate Ankrum finished second, and although he was disappointed in not winning, he was happy for the team. “I honestly would much rather have a teammate give me the bumper for the win, so we can just get a win for MHR.” Three Fords finished behind the Chevrolet teammates, Jake Garcia was third, followed by Chandler Smith in fourth and Ben Rhodes rounded out the top five.

Although Heim ran out of time getting back to the front of the field, he finished as the top Toyota in sixth place and leads the series by 20 points. Next up on the schedule is Bristol in two weeks.

The stage began with a first lap wreck as Gio Ruggiero spun out in turn 2 and Ben Rhodes suffered front end damage from the incident.
